In New York, Halloween builds in a steady crescendo of pumpkins and black latex throughout the whole month of October, while the ghosts and ghouls come out in full force. There are plenty of fun events and attractions that the whole family can enjoy during this month in New York City but the following five are just the tip of the iceberg.

New York's Village Halloween Parade |
New York's Village Halloween Parade
This is a mile-long Halloween experience that attracts a crowd of up to two million people and it is probably the largest parade of it's kind. It features wonderful floats, spectacular costumes, puppets and marching bands. New York's Village Halloween Parade has been named one of “100 Things to Do Before You Die” by the popular guidebook of the same title. In 2011 the theme is “The ‘I’ of the Beholder” and the parade watchers will become the watched, so make sure you are wearing your spookiest costume. New York's Village Halloween Parade takes place on October 31 every year, from 7:00 to 10:00 pm, and begins on Sixth Avenue at Spring Street and continues on up to 23rd Street.
Bronx Zoo’s Boo at the Zoo
Enjoy family and kids' activities, including magic shows, scary stories, costume parades, a hay maze, hay rides and pumpkin painting and get an up-close look at the Zoo's creepy critters (think bats, snakes and spiders). It's a great chance to enjoy a weekend outdoors while getting a little more fun out of this year's Halloween costume! The Bronx Zoo’s Boo at the Zoo is an annual event taking place at the Bronx Zoo all weekends in October. Kids can enjoy free admission if they wear a costume!

Halloween Extravaganza and the Procession of Ghouls |
Halloween Extravaganza and the Procession of Ghouls
One of the most classic events for the whole family is the Halloween Extravaganza and the Procession of Ghouls. This event is held every year at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and includes a screening of a classic horror or monster movie followed by the Grand Procession of the Ghouls, which features amazing costumes and creatures who slowly work their way down the center aisle, often interacting with audience members.
The Addams Family at Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on Broadway
The new musical The Addams Family, based on the bizarre and beloved family of characters created by legendary cartoonist Charles Addams, stars Roger Rees and Brooke Shields as Gomez and Morticia Addams, heads of the famously ghoulish clan. They're creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky, but they are also funny, strange, and lovable, making the show perfect for a family-night out. This is a new twist on an old classic, but with the pitch-black humor still in place.
