Exploring the Caribbean Islands
Whether you’re visiting for the first time or planning an island hopping tour, the Caribbean is sure to leave a lasting impression. There are plenty of destinations to choose from in the region but we’ve selected 5 of the best, all of which offer something unique.
St Lucia
The mountainous landscape and palm fringed beaches of St Lucia provide the perfect setting for a romantic couples holiday. Whilst it’s a honeymoon hotspot, the island is also great for the adventurous. Hike into the famed Piton Mountains stopping to admire botanical gardens and waterfalls along the way. Sulphur Springs in Soufriere is another volcanic attraction which shouldn’t be missed. Take in the scenery and enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience as you unwind in thermal mud baths.
Barbados
The aptly named ‘Jewel of the Caribbean’ offers everything you could need for an unforgettable holiday. From its jaw-dropping natural wonders to world renowned golf courses and scuba friendly waters, you'll find activities to suit all travelers. For nature lovers, the island’s wildlife reserve promises a great day out. A colorful array of species can be spotted in this spectacular woodland which includes primates, flamingoes and turtles. After all that excitement, head to St Lawrence Gap for some of the best cuisine and nightlife on the island. Be sure to sample the local rum and join the locals for a spot of traditional dancehall.
Aruba
The world class resorts of Aruba remain a favorite amongst families seeking a truly stress-free holiday. It’s no surprise given the close proximity of attractions, many of which can be found at the watersports mecca of Palm Beach. Considered one of the best beaches in the world, visitors can ride a jet-ski, windsurf and sip cocktails at lively beachside bars. Culture vultures can also get their sightseeing fix at the island's most popular historic attraction - the Bushiribana Gold Mine. Dating back to the 19th century, visitors can gain a fascinating insight into the island's once prosperous gold rush.
Jamaica
Few places offer laidback island charm quite like the sun-kissed island of Jamaica. Aside from the many all-inclusive resorts which are surprisingly affordable, there’s no shortage of fun-filled attractions. Take a guided walk tour of Montego Bay and learn more about its most famous resident, Bob Marley. Hiking in the Blue Mountains National Park is a chance to immerse yourself in some of the island's breath-taking natural beauty. Thrill-seekers might want to hike to the summit of Blue Mountain Peak for unbeatable views of the region.
Antigua
There may be 365 beaches to choose from but drag yourself away from golden coastline and you’ll discover some of the Caribbean’s best cultural sights. Take a journey back through time at one of the island's earliest sugar mills known as Betty’s Hope. Dating back to the 1600s, visitors can admire a beautifully restored windmill and learn more at the open air museum. Another popular attraction is St John’s Cathedral, an architectural masterpiece, famed for its neo-Baroque white towers.
Travel to any of these islands and you’ll be left mesmerized. Taking a Caribbean cruise is probably the best way to see as much as possible. It’s the perfect chance to soak up the sun and create lasting memories in your own slice of paradise.
