Five Tips When Saving to Buy a New Car

Human beings are not meant to live a monotonous existence. We need goals, targets, things to work towards and dream about. Trudging into work on a drizzly Monday morning is a lot easier if the money you earn from your job will be going towards a specific thing instead of just bread and milk. You need something to give you that drive.

Talking of drive, a car is just the thing to work towards. Having a car can make a huge difference to your day to day life. Saving up for one is most definitely worth it so take a look at some V cars here and then read our top five tips for saving towards a new car.

Light Trails

1. Don't buy a new car unless you really need one

It sounds simplistic but it's worth saying. In a consumer-driven society, greed is encouraged and we are often told that we need things we often don't. Unless your existing car is seriously run down or is starting to cost a lot of money to maintain, don't buy a new one.

2. Stay disciplined

Saving money isn't easy. If it was, there wouldn’t be any debt! When you walk past a shop window and spy that dream winter coat or hear about the new expensive restaurant opening up in town, stay disciplined, stay strong and resist temptation!

3. Keep focused

A good way to maintain your discipline is to keep focusing on what you will have at the end of the process. Visualising your new car will help you to do this. Think about the gleam on the alloys, the way the steering wheel will feel when you grip it, the softness of the seats.

4. Continue with your monthly payments – even when you've paid the car off

This isn't strictly something to do before you've bought the car, but is a handy tip nonetheless. Once you've paid off the last of your monthly payments, it might be a good idea to carry on paying the same amount into a savings account each month. This will provide you with a little bundle of funds than can be used to help fix or repair the car at a later date and as necessary.

5. Keep the money coming in

Sounds obvious, but needs to be pointed out. Keep working hard and make sure you stay in your job. If you have a birthday coming up, ask friends and family to make a contribution to your car fund to get you away from the savings starting block.
