German Handicrafts & A Very Merry Christmas to You All!

One of the most magical moments of our airberlin press trip a few weeks ago was actually the visit we paid to Bjoern Koehler's Christmas workshop. A qualified master lathesman, Bjoern combines traditional workmanship with modern style fundamentals to create almost spartan figures.

The workshop is nested in the beautiful Erzgebirge Mountains and while the area is full of charm itself, the workshop is this warm and friendly place where you get the feeling that dreams do come true. The Erzgebirge or Ore Mountains was traditionally a mining region, but since mining stopped being a financially sustainable way of life, the miner families needed a new source of income and so they made the shift to handicrafts!

The original designs of limited edition figures make for a beautiful collection of funny looking Santas and nativity scenes, but not only. However, since it was just before Christmas, they were the ones that caught our attention most.

I loved the smoothness of the wood and the attention and love with which each piece was created. I've always wanted to visit Santa's workshop and in Germany this might be the closest it can get.

We wish you a Magical Christmas in the presence of your loved ones!!! And a very generous Santa!
