La Cabana Beach & Racquet Club Celebrates 20 Years with Completion of US$36 Million Renovations
La Cabana Beach and Racquet Club is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year with the completion of a three-year, US$36 million room renovation project that re-establishes the resort as one of the premier timeshare facilities in the Caribbean.
Local dignitaries and tourism professionals will join in the celebrations at La Cabana on Sept. 20 in the newly completed hotel lobby.
“Once called the resort ‘where dreams come true’ La Cabana has resurfaced with a bold new look and feel from the front lobby to the interior of every room,” said Willie Mosconi, president of the Board of Directors.
La Cabana Beach and Racquet Club opened officially on Dec. 15, 1990 and enjoyed immediate success in its first year of operation 20 years ago in 1991.
“With the completion of this multi-year renovation project, La Cabana is moving into a rejuvenation of its historical place in Aruba’s tourism industry,” said Joe Najjar, general manager of the resort, who has overseen the renovation project from its inception including the planning, design and operation of the renovations.
The resort has an exciting new look and feel beginning at the arrival with the front façade and its newly built port au cache.
Inside sits the new lobby which was totally transformed to re-welcome timeshare owners and transient hotel guests accentuated with glass and marble, a custom-made centerpiece artistic sculpture of water and fire and an elevator replacing the wooden stairs to the mezzanine.
The new modern check-in area has been customized with separate check-in pods providing a more personalized and welcoming atmosphere. The original brilliant stained glass mural was safeguarded throughout the reconstruction of the lobby and serves as the backdrop for the remodeled lobby.
As art has now become a focus of the resort, management has agreed to feature four exhibitions of local artists in the new lobby over the next 12 months, beginning with the opening on Sept. 20. These art pieces will complement the centerpiece of the lobby as they will feature the four elements of earth, water, air and fire.
“This has been a delicate project in that we had to displace and accommodate our timeshare owners over a period of time which required juggling of reservations on a regular basis,” Najjar said. “Bluegreen Vacation Club, an owner of intervals at La Cabana, was very supportive and provided much needed assistance with achieving this goal. Bluegreen graciously suspended use of its units to allow the resort to accommodate other La Cabana owners in their units.
“I’m sure they will all find that it has been worth the inconvenience as they enjoy the new accommodations and atmosphere beginning with the front façade and throughout the newly designed lobby and personalized check-in area,” he added.
“The renovation was not just a management project,” Najjar said, adding: “We had the support of the Board of Directors, our associates, Bluegreen Vacation Club, Interval International and all the timeshare owners resulting in a huge family affair to rebuild what was once the Grande Dame of timeshare resorts in the Caribbean.”
Over the years La Cabana has added amenities, dining options and live entertainment throughout the day and evening.
The resort attracts families with its large pool and waterslide as well as all the watersports available on Eagle Beach, considered by many as one of the top 10 beaches in the world.
A Day Camp for children with trained supervisors provides daily entertainment and activities while a fitness center, spa and beauty shop provide adult relaxation.
There are shops on property including a grocery, clothing and jewelry stores and a private chapel used by many for renewal of vows. Situated under the magnificent Caribbean sky, La Cabana’s Las Ramblas, a tapas and grill restaurant, has become the most talked about establishment for superb dining highlighted by succulent dishes and outstanding service.
La Cabana caters to couples, honeymooners, families, retirees and groups. Many transient guests ended up becoming owners wishing to enjoy their home-away-from home each year. Many of the timeshare owners were so enamored with their weeks that many purchased multiple weeks.
Several others, who owned timeshares elsewhere heard of La Cabana’s reputation and experienced the dream with exchanges through Interval International, one of the major exchange company’s in the timeshare industry.
“We have had a long and very positive working relationship with La Cabana Beach and Racquet Club. For 20 years the staff and management of this award winning property have been unwavering in their commitment to deliver an exceptional vacation experience to owners and guests alike,” said David Callaghan, vice president Resort Sales and Service for Interval International. “We congratulate the Board of Directors, management and staff on the completion of the resort’s renovations and their continued dedication to the vacation ownership industry,” Callaghan added.
By enhancing the resort product, La Cabana has taken the steps to ensure that the hotel remains one of the premier Caribbean timeshare properties.
