The Right Fit for Your Child
As parents, we want the best for our kids. We bring them into this world as helpless little infants and before you know it we are planning their futures, which colleges they will go to and what careers they will follow. But to get to all those wonderful achievements you will need to find the right schools for them first. While public schools are fine in most places, there are some schools that focus on different paths for learning, with much more successful results. One of these is the Montessori method of schooling which is used in such schools as the Montessori school of Fremont.
Understanding the Montessori Method
In these types of schools, which follow the teaching methods outlined by Dr. Maria Montessori, children learn at their own speed and follow an individual path of knowledge that is based on ability instead of age. Many parents prefer this method as it allows gifted kids to follow their curiosity and gives children who are struggling with certain learning skills the chance to focus on them.
The other aspect of this special type of schooling is for the children to choose the activities that fascinate them and allow them to grow whatever special aptitudes they may have at the pace that works for them. The concept has grown in acceptance in the last few decades and there are now Montessori schools all over the country.
Keeping Fit in Special Schools
Another type of schooling which parents sometimes chose for their kids are ones that focus on sports as a way to give their kids the extra education in these areas. In fact, there are private boarding schools that will even focus on a specific sport, one of the most popular being baseball. Math or arts focused schools have also become very popular and magnet schools have sprung up in places like California where parents can choose to have their taxes support the local magnet school if they send their kids to it.
Finding the School that Fits Your Child
In the end we as parents must decide if the extra pressure that comes with going to a special school is right for our child. Some kids thrive under pressure, others collapse. The other side of the coin, of course, is that when you have a child who loves to learn, they could lose that love if the school leaves them feeling bored. With schools that focus on the things they love the best and will excel at, you can be assured your math whiz of a kid is in the kind of learning atmosphere that will encourage him to do his best.
