Are you a fan of the The Tudors TV series? Than Thornbury Castle-Hotel might be a good destination for you.

Built in the 16th century, Thornbury Castle is currently the only Tudor Castle-Hotel in England. Originally designed as a fortified manor or a castle-palace for Edward Stafford, the Third Duke of Buckingham, Thornbury Castle is celebrating 500 years of history this year and it is a magnificent example of late medieval craftsmanship.

King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn stayed in Thornbury Castle for a while. Princess Mary also lived here for a few years. Thornbury Castle remained empty for the last 300 years, but now it has been brought to its former glory.

Close to Cardiff and Bath, Thornbury Castle is placed amongst the historical parklands near Cotswolds and Bristol. Stonehenge, Glastonbury Abbey, the castles of Berkeley, Reglan and Chepstow are also within easy reach.

While staying at the Thornbury Castle, you'll be walking in the footsteps of King Henry VIII. Take a tour of the castle, peek beyond as many of its heavy oak doors as you can, explore the ancient grounds, the beautiful architecture, and loose yourself strolling in the oldest Tudor garden in England. Thornbury Castle has had its own vineyard, from which the local wine is still produced, within the castle walls for over 500 years. Have a short walk from the castle to the High Street, where you can enjoy the peace of the quaint little shops and restaurants. Return for the night to the Thornbury Castle, to rest in the Duke's Bedchamber where King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn slept.
