Top 5 Luxury Tree Houses Around the World

No matter where you are in the world, accommodation can make or break your trip. Pick a bad hotel and you’ll be resting your head in a cold and dark room the size of a shoe-box but pick somewhere unique and authentic and your stay could quite possibly be one of the highlights of your trip.

The latter is certainly the case where tree house accommodation is concerned. Here is our pick of the best tree house stays around the world, where a night or two spent up high, surrounded by the elements, is a truly unforgettable experience.

Reserva Amazonica, Peru

Found deep in the southern Amazon region of Tambopata, on the banks of the Madre de Dios river, this charming property offers the most comfortable Amazon lodge experience in all of Peru. Built using local materials and standing on a private ecological reserve and research centre that occupies 10,000 hectares, Reserva Amazonica once had Stephen Fry spend a night or two.

It is the property’s canopy tree house that is a real treat for the senses. Floating 90ft above the Amazon floor you can drift off to the sounds of the jungle all around you, but make sure you wake early to spot the local wildlife who come out to play at this tranquil hour.

Tongabezi Tree House, Zambia

The ideal place to spends two or three nights relaxing at the start or end of your safari holiday, Tongabezi is very stylish, beautiful and peaceful. There is one tree house available here and it oozes luxury and charm with its king size bed and air conditioning. The accommodation is spread over a large area, the highlight of which is a beautiful claw foot bath - the ideal vantage point to take in your fantastic surroundings.

Location-wise, you would be hard-pushed to beat Tongabezi: it sits in a peaceful spot on the banks of the Zambezi river, close to Victoria Falls!

Lion Sands Private Game Reserve, South Africa

A wooden platform sits in a tree high above the Sabi Sands. Hear the roar of a lion or the cackle of a hyena as they prowl below, far enough away to keep you safe but near enough to give you a truly unique and authentic bush experience.

From this vantage point you will witness an amazing African sunset, bettered only by the awe-inspiring star gazing on offer once the sun goes down.

The platform, with its four poster bed, basin and even a hot-water bottle, is a far-cry from the tree houses of our childhood; this is a magical and luxurious experience not to be missed!

Tranquil Hideaway, India

Set in the heart of a coffee plantation, the Tranquil Hideaway offers visitors the chance to spend a night or two in either a tree house or villa.

The tree house has been built around sizeable tree trunks using all natural materials. Sitting 35ft above the ground, the views from this room are spectacular, reaching far across the glorious landscape. There is no better place to enjoy a cup of local coffee in the morning before embarking on the day’s activities.

The tree villa is the perfect option for families, with space for up to four guests and ‘his and ‘hers’ bathrooms. An impressive 1080 square ft. is at your disposal and the whole of the villa is completely insect-proof.

Tarangire Treetops, Tanzania

Twenty luxury houses, built into the branches of baobab trees, await you at Tarangire Treetops. No expense is spared here: a massive 65 square meters is at your disposal, including an en suite bathroom and hot shower, polished wooden floors, large bed and private balcony, which overlooks the impressive Tarangire plains. The property itself is situated in a Maasai concession area, 45 minutes from the Boundary Hill gate to the Tarangire Park. If you are lucky enough to stay here, take advantage of your location with a nature walk, or a full day drive into the park itself.
