Day 1 - Nevada

Sacramento to Ely, NV:  445 miles;   9 hrs.

On Wednesday I realized I had no TV or internet connection - I mistakenly asked AT&T to turn it off on Apr. 1 rather than Apr. 2.  No TV and no internet is hard to deal with when you are used to them - mostly the internet.

I had decided to wait until Sunday or the day after, letting the spring breakers move out of the way, but I left this morning as originally planned.  I had no traffic going east, and relatively little oncoming traffic.  It was amazing!  There were a lot of folks out at Lake Tahoe but I drove through there with no problems, and then had the same experience on US50 through Nevada.  Any traffic to be seen was going in the opposite direction.  Still, I drove a lot miles and I'm really tired.  I'll experience an hour time change 1st thing tomorrow so I'll try to get to sleep early.

I had thought I might camp in the National Forest, but the weather is just too cold and windy in Nevada and I'm choosing the comfort of sleeping inside tonight.  Maybe tomorrow - I hope it's a bit warmer but you just never know and this is almost a month early for great weather.

It makes me wish I had a teardrop camper, until I see the nice bathroom and beautiful shower in my motel room.   I asked for a room on the first floor and they gave me a handicapped room with a huge shower!

Tomorrow I'll have between 2 and 3 hours of Nevada, and then into Utah.  I hope to write from Utah tomorrow unless, of course, I am camping.

- On The Road Again
I was all set to go to the Badlands, however, as was pointed out to me, the weather wasn't looking good.  I had my heart set on stopping at Wounded Knee Massacre Site, to the Badlands, and even to the Wall Drug Store.  But I hope the weather...

- Enthusiasm Picking Up!
I kind of thought I'd get back in my groove but was beginning to wonder.  I've made phone calls this morning to cancel services such as AT&T.  For all the problems I usually experience trying to get something done by telephone with...

- No Place Like Home
Be it ever so humble there's no place like home! I arrived at my day's destination in Carson City, NV at 1:00 pm and didn't want a repeat of yesterday when I had way too much time to kill because of early arrival.  Also I'm tired...

- In Nevada
I woke up at 6:30 this morning when I heard a woman giggling in the adjacent room.  Dang!  I just took my time getting dressed, went to the office to get coffee, and ate breakfast in my room.  I left Green River at 7:30, forgetting I would...

- Not Much Today
I drove from Monett, MO to Western OK (in the Panhandle) for a much greater distance and time than I like to spend on the wheel.  Eight hours, and I haven't figured the mileage yet. Northern OK is ok but mostly it's been boring.  US...
