3 Cities that Every Coffee Lover Should Visit

For the overworked, the ambitious, the busy, and the sophisticated, coffee is a diet staple. That rich aroma is a mouth-watering perfume, guaranteed to have you licking your lips in anticipation. The sight of the smoke curling up from those dark depths is a stimulant all on its own, and that means you take your coffee drinking very seriously.

Once you’re on the coffee bandwagon, finding that perfect palate cleanser becomes something of a holy grail. You’ll have strong opinions on what exactly constitutes a world-class cup of the black stuff, and that’s a chase that can take you all around the globe. If you’re searching for that ideal blend, then here are just three of the cities that you might like to visit…

#1: Havana, Cuba

The beautiful city of Havana has a lot to offer travellers, but for those with a refined palate, its exquisite coffees rank highly on its list of attractions. Its breathtaking landscapes and architecture are not to be scoffed at, but nor are its delightful blends of strong and sweet coffees. Espressos are one of Havana’s most popular specialities, with popular variations including the Café Cubano (an espresso shot brewed with sugar) and the cortadito (an espresso shot with milk). Although many find that it is an acquired taste, those who try it describe Cuba’s finest coffee as sophisticated, strong, and smooth. Book a trip to Havana today to give it a try!

#2: Manila, Philippines

Although the Philippines may not spring to mind when you first think of coffee, the up-and-coming city of Manila is a coffee lover’s paradise. Sprawling, hurried, and cosmopolitan, the Philippines’ capital has benefitted from a surge in coffee shops over the last few years. One of the most lauded is the Duck and Buvette, located at the famed Shangri-La Plaza, which has become internationally acclaimed for its cocktails of Intelligentsia beans. Refinery, which specialises in traditional blends alongside flavoured originals, is also well worth a visit.

#3: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Our third and final coffee hotspot is Ethiopia’s Addis Ababa. In a country abounding in natural beauty, it really does say something about the quality of the coffee when it manages to claim a place as one of the locale’s top draws. However, the exquisite flavours of Addis Ababa’s offerings should perhaps be expected, considering that Ethiopia is the seventh largest coffee producer in the world, and harvests a mind-boggling 5,000 strains of Arabica beans. The best way to try it is to stick to local custom, which means sipping a delectable hand-brewed cocktail stewed in a clay coffee pot. To really make the most of your culinary adventure, soak up a little culture as you go by partaking in a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony.
