3 Destinations to Fly to from Scotland’s Capital
Edinburgh is the most popular city in the UK with international visitors (outwith London), thanks to its many arresting tourist attractions, wonderful shopping opportunities and plenty of places to enjoy a wee dram.
From the striking beauty of Edinburgh Castle and Arthur’s Seat to the culture of the National Portrait Gallery and the buzz of the Grassmarket, Scotland’s capital is a must-see for Brits and non-natives alike.
For locals, however, the constant onslaught of tourists (almost 1.3 million overseas visitors last year), can make their yearly holiday even more welcome – and they’re not short on choice when it comes to flying from Edinburgh Airport.
Even better for those looking to jet off with the minimum of fuss, the airport parking Edinburgh has to offer is nothing short of exemplary, as there are plenty of operators within a stone’s throw of this bustling travel hub.
But where to go?
Budapest
Budapest attracts over four million tourists a year – and it’s easy to see why. Flying from one capital to another, visitors to Hungary’s largest city will enjoy nothing more than a stroll along the banks of the Danube, a saunter around Heroes’ Square or a ride on the Millennium Underground Railway.
For those looking for something a little bit different, check out the Széchenyi Baths in City Park, which is built in modern Renaissance style and offers visitors the chance to enjoy a medicinal bath in one of its many pools.
Innsbruck
Perhaps best known for hosting the Winter Olympics, Innsbruck lies approximately halfway between Munich and Verona. Although renowned for its winter sports, the city offers so much more for those not interested in donning their skis or strapping on a snowboard.
Indeed, it’s a spectacularly beautiful city, with its stunning town centre scattered with historic buildings while animal lovers can visit the Alpine Zoo (Alpenzoo), one of the highest located zoos in Europe.
Naples
Think of Italy and images of Rome and Venice immediately spring to mind – but it’s wise not to discount the wonderful city of Naples. One of the oldest cities in Italy, it contains some of the finest art in Europe and a veritable throng of mighty castles and palaces.
Of course, you can’t visit Italy and not be tempted by its abundance of mouth-watering food – pizza, pasta, coffee, seafood etc – which is sure to have you heading back to Edinbrugh Airport with a smile on your face AND your belt suitably loosened.
