5 Most Exotic Places To Stay In Turkey
Turkey has a reputation for its beautiful beaches and its luxurious resorts. But Turkey holidays have so much more to offer than a minimalist hotel room with a view of the sea. The millennias of architecture and diversity of terrain means that accommodation comes in all shapes and sizes, and you can get some cheap holiday deals, too. If you’re looking for a luxurious holiday with a bit of a difference, here are some places you ought to investigate:
A Cave
Cappadocia is famous for the its unique rock formations and the way the settlement has been nestled into them. Half houses, half caves, these buildings make wonderfully unique places to stay, and the views of the surreal landscape are breath-taking. While you may be sleeping in a cave, you’ll feel nothing like a cave dweller, as these hotels are decked out with every luxury. Try the Hezen Cave Hotel in Ortahizar for its chic glamour and lovely sun decks.
A Yurt
The peace of the Turkish countryside makes the perfect backdrop for retreat holiday. And if you’re looking for something a bit different, there is no better way to experience your natural surroundings than in yurt and with some yoga. Huzur Vadisi, which is based a 10-minute drive from the little yachting village of Gocek, has some of the most beautiful coastal views, as well as great food, and is a favourite destination of many a yoga buff.
A Boat
Sleeping on a boat needn’t mean being cramped and uncomfortable. In fact, the cabins of some gullets, the traditional wooden Turkish boats, are as luxurious as the finest hotels. If you’re looking for a room with a view, why not rent one of these boats, drop anchor wherever takes your fancy and choose the view yourself?
A Distillery
If you want to stay on the Bosphorus, but you’re looking for somewhere a bit different, this converted alcohol factory is a great option. The historic building, which was bequeathed, derelict, to two architects, has since been transformed into one of the coolest hotels around. With chic décor and views of the water from every room, Sumahan on the Water is full of the people in the know.
A Hamam
Ok, you wouldn’t strictly be sleeping in a hamam at Hotel Empress Zoe, but the most luxurious rooms do come with a mini one of your own, and the garden backs onto the ruins of a 15th Century Turkish bath. This hotel is miniature, which is part of its charm. But the best bit is its location, in the oldest part of the city, just around the corner from the Four Seasons and a five-minute walk from most of Istanbul’s historic sites.
