A Visit to the Largest Chocolate Shop in the World
Our end of the year trip to Germany with airberlin not only brought us to East Berlin, the Berlin Wall and Tiergarten Park in Berlin, but also to Fassbender & Rausch, the largest chocolaterie in the world. Rausch is the company behind the delicious airberlin chocolate hearts of which we couldn't have enough at the unveiling of the Christmas aircraft in Dusseldorf.
We started our visit with a glass of hot chocolate accompanied by a selection of heavenly delicious filled chocolates in the elegant café upstairs. The hot chocolate menu is extensive, but from the first glance I knew exactly what I wanted - the one with Irish whiskey cream, which turned out to be the best hot chocolate I've ever had. Cipri on the other hand went with the romantic name of Wintertraum (winter dream), a mix of espresso, amaretto and hot chocolate topped with whipped cream.
After savoring our hot beverages, we accompanied George for a marzipan chocolate heart demonstration. He made a personalized chocolate heart for each of us and Cipri and I exchange the delicious hearts on the spot.
Next we went downstairs for a tour of the busy chocolate shop. This was a chocolate wonderland we found difficult to leave. Starting with the magnificent chocolate sculptures that decorate the large space and finishing with the over 200 varieties of filled chocolates and truffles, this place is uniquely delicious.
But we found the selection of chocolates of different cocoa concentrations the most striking. From the pure dark to milk chocolate, eating our way through the full range of flavors was a remarkable experience.
