Hotel La Maison de Caroline, Alba Iulia. Charming and Traditional
Alba Iulia is one of the oldest settlements in Romania, dating back to the Roman times. It stands out for being the place where at the end of the 16th century Michael the Brave achieved for a brief period of time the union of the three main provinces of Romania: Walachia, Transylvania, and Moldavia and where the peasant revolt turned the city into a symbol of the fight for justice and freedom at the end of the 18th century. It was here where on December 1st 1918 the province of Transylvania announced its unification with Romania.
Given all the above and the recommendations we received from other travellers, we definitely wanted to make it to Alba Iulia on our lastest trip to Romania. And boy, we were not disappointed! The Habsburg citadel is one of the most impressive in Europe and is, simply put, AMAZING to stroll through. The Roman Catholic Cathedral found here is the oldest cathedral in Transylvania. The Orthodox Cathedral is just as impressive if not even more. We also made it to the Union Hall where the unification of Transylvania with Romania was signed at the end of WWI.
