New Facebook Timeline Summary
On 30 March (tomorrow!) Facebook is changing the way that business pages work by switching them to the "timeline" view. All Facebook business pages will be forced to use the new format.
You've probably seen it already but here's a quick breakdown of the changes that they're making:
- The welcome tab is being removed and there's a new cover photo (timeline image)
- There is a new profile image (commonly used for the logo)
- The timeline interface replaces the traditional Facebook wall
- Tabs used to be on the left column of our Facebook page, they're changing the terminology to Apps. Using Apps you can create custom page inside your Facebook page
- The apps are wider which allow you to do so much more inside Facebook. In addition to that, Facebook has also allowed you to create thumbnails to highlight your different applications.

What does this mean for me?
The biggest change is the new cover photo which spans wider than the restrictive old style layout. This has a much bigger visual impact which should is an excellent opportunity to brand your business. In addition there is a new profile image on the left which most businesses are using for their logo.
Restrictions
You aren't allowed to display any of the following on the timeline image:
- No pricing or purchase info
- No contact information
- No web address, email, mailing address etc
- No like or share on anny other site features
- No call to action e.g. "sign up now"
- No promotions, coupons or adverts
- It should primarily be image and not text based
How do I engage more people on my Facebook Business page?
Use the following rules of thumb to make the most of your Facebook busines page.
- Post 2-4 times a week
- Keep your posts short
- Post during work hours
- Posts which involve questions, product information & competitions are considered more engaging
