A Short Summary of Our 8,000km Long InterRail Trip

We love traveling through Europe. And we think trains are cool. Therefore our fondness of the InterRail Pass only came naturally. For one amazing month this summer we traveled through 6 European countries and the moments lived during this period carved deep and wonderful memories in our souls. We explored 20 destinations in 30 days, and traveled approximately 8,000 kilometers.

Traveling with an InterRail Pass gave us great flexibility, so much so that we haven't really finished planning the trip until the very last day of our journey. It also gave us the opportunity to taste amazing recipes in the places they were originally created, see beautiful architecture, meet interesting people from all ways of life, and expose ourselves to a different way of seeing things. Because you know what? 'InterRail' really is synonym with 'freedom'.

Here is a short summary of the places we experienced during our 1 month long InterRail trip and what pops now into our minds when we hear the names of these cities. You can also read our top tips for traveling Europe with an Interrail Pass.

Bratislava - quirky statues, strangers joining together in dance, yummy slushies, a nation that grows on you the more you get to know it

• Krakow - best tour-guide ever, lots of history, one amazing plaza
• Wroclaw - dwarfs, great architecture, our favorite city in Poland!
• Warsaw - skyscrapers, a city where old and new coexist, lots of green spaces, peacocks
• Elblag - cute little city, off the beaten path
• Malbork Castle - huge castle of the Teutonic order, well worth half a day
• Gdansk - amber, some pretty unusual shopping streets, very alive, great atmosphere, we really need to go back and spend more time

Lubeck - one of the most charming medieval cities we've ever seen, delicious cherries and pastries

• Aarhus - best old town museum ever, amazing people who seem to pursue first of all their heart and not the trends (maybe that's why the Danish are the happiest people on Earth), no umbrellas, best pancakes ever
Legoland - fun for all ages, an unexpected surprise, Legoland is much more than legos, it's actually very green and pretty!
• Helsingor (+Hamlet's Castle) - quiet little town, pure Danish, the seashores are amazing, the castle is majestic. We could easily picture ourselves living here
• Copenhagen - we could not picture ourselves living here. Madness!

• Oslo - weirdest statues ever, fairytale like harbor, peace
• Bergen - fjords, cute wooden houses, hikes on Mount Floyen, Bryggen, Christmas shops, amazing souvenirs, penguins, snow, the most interesting fish market
• Osterfjord
• Stavanger - petroleum museum, fjords, Pulpit Rock, colorful wooden houses and angry birds
• Lysefjord & Pulpit Rock

• Gothenburg - huge cinnamon buns
• Orebro - one amazing park, beautiful castle
• Lake Siljan (Rattvik & Leksand) - heaven on Earth!
• Stockholm - the most beautiful city in Scandinavia, best open air museum - Skansen, one huge old ship - Vasa, breathtaking canals, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, fist time we slept in a boat hotel, must go back, 3 days are not nearly enough!

And finally here's our route map, starting in Budapest and finishing in Frankfurt. It might not be the smartest in terms of time spent on trains, as we really browse through a lot of territory to get from one place to another, but this was in a way good because we could rest on the trains and get to the next destination with our batteries charged.
