Helsingor, Hamlet's Castle and a Pure Danish Experience

In the morning we left Aarhus and continued our Interrail journey towards Helsingor and Kronborg Castle, the one made so famous by Shakespeare.

Hamlet's Castle in Helsingor

Just as we got outside the train station, Hamlet's Castle majestically erected in front of us. We walked for about a quarter of an hour till the entrance and than emerged ourselves in the stepped into history, huge rooms of the castle.

At the time we entered the castle, it was raining miserably, but just as we got to climb the tower, the sun miraculously came out from the clouds and we could take some breathtaking pictures of Helsingor.

Views of Helsingor from the castle's tower

Visiting Helsingor was never in our plan, but just after the panoramic views we enjoyed from Kronborg Castle's tower, we decided to go for a walk on the shores and then through the little cobbled streets of the city.

The shores

We had goose bumps just as we discovered cute little houses colorfully painted just in the city center. It was like visiting Den Gamle By all over again, except that this time the houses were privately owned and we couldn't go inside. Another thing we've noticed is that in spite of the windows being at eye level, there are no curtains  but instead just behind the glass there are pot plants and beautiful objects on display. I love it!

Helsingor's train station is an impressive building too, and just as we were about to take the 1 hour train ride to Copenhagen, we stopped once again to take a photo of Hamlet and Ophelia's statues just in front of the main entrance.

After having visited Aarhus and Helsingor during the last few days, Copenhagen was madness. There were people everywhere, locals and tourists alike, bikers, pedestrians, beggars (begging in English nevertheless , crazy people, street performers, poor people, drunk people, noisy people, people in a hurry, and finally, yeah, some normal people who were leisurely strolling through Copenhagen's center too.

Having visited Copenhagen a few years ago, we only gave it one evening during this trip. And truth being told, I am happy we did so, as I feel like Copenhagen is suffocating me. This is not the quiet and polite Denmark we've experienced during the last few days. Copenhagen is something else and I respect that, but I prefer going beyond Copenhagen for a pure Danish experience.

- Orebro Castle. Majestically Rising In The Middle Of A Modern City
Situated right in the middle of the town, the Orebro Castle majestically dominates the views. We arrived in Orebro on a very rainy day. The castle revealed itself to us just as a pretty unusual site. A moat surrounds the castle and the city...

- A Short Stop In Gothenburg
On the 14th day of our 1 month Interrail trip through Europe we made a short stop in Gothenburg. As far as I can tell, Gothenburg, in spite of being the second largest city in Sweden, it's not a very touristy place. Even the locals told us there was...

- Best Of Aarhus In One Day
Today we waked up in Aarhus, Denmark. This is the first day since we started our Interrail trip through Europe that we didn't use our Interrail Passes, but instead we dedicated the whole day to the city of Aarhus. As a matter of fact, we didn't...
