As the taxi stopped in front of Amari Watergate Hotel in Bangkok, we were immediately greeted by someone from the staff. The man helped us with the luggage and showed us to the elevator that would take us to the private reception at the 32nd floor. We were being hosted in one of the executive rooms covering only the top four levels of the Amari building and we were more than ready to indulge in luxury.
Location
Amari Watergate Bangkok is located in the Pratunam neighborhood. Surrounded by skyscrapers, and a very bustling life at the ground level, the hotel is close to shopping malls and street bazaars. One can find basically anything here, from designer clothes, to local silks scarves at bargain prices. Also the airport expressway is just a five minute walk down the road. This came in very handy, as Amari Watergate was basically our last stop in Asia before returning back home.
The room
We stayed in one of the executive rooms at the 32nd floor, just next to the executive lounge. The decor was even more beautiful than we imagined it would be and we were pleasantly surprised to find two towel swans on the bed, swimming in a sea of rose petals. The atmosphere created by this detail was incredibly romantic, plus shortly after we arrived, we received a complimentary bottle of champagne and a chocolate cake that put us in a very good mood that lasted for the whole duration of our stay.
The room was spacious with all the amenities, but also had some impressive views over the City of Angels.
The executive lounge
The executive lounge is probably Amari Watergate's best idea. Back in November when we stayed with them, the lounge had been open for only a few days and already promised to be a success. We spent many hours here, using the complimentary Wi-fi and relaxing, as a wide variety of freshly squeezed fruit juices and cookies were served any time of the day or night.
It was here, in the executive lounge, where we were welcomed for a private check-in, served cold welcome drinks and treated like family. Needless to say, this space soon became our favorite area in the whole hotel.
Also the views from the executive lounge were pretty amazing. We could have spent hours watching the daily life taking place 32 floors below. Reaching into people's lifestyle from here really gives you a different perspective over things. And I have to say, Bangkok, as one of the top places to visit in Thailand, has an interesting skyline, especially at night time.
The buffet breakfast for the four executive floors was also served here, as well as a light dinner at cocktail hour, between 5pm and 7pm. We simply loved the presentation and the creativity of the dishes served, a nice combination between Eastern and Western cuisine.
The pool and the spa
The swimming pool is situated amongst a rooftop garden, with views at two of the tallest buildings in Bangkok. And to be honest, it is quite a sight. Plus the pool bar, open till late at night, serves some delicious cocktails too.
The Breeze Spa, situated by the pool area, is an irresistible oasis of peace. I loved both the name and the array of treatments they offered, plus it can't hurt that the place looks absolutely amazing.
The lobby
The lobby is this amazing space, always busy and ever-changing. We didn't spend much time here, as we preferred the more quiet executive lounge. But we just couldn't resist stopping for a moment on our way up to listen to these two girls playing beautiful Thai music. It was a nice touch, and certainly something memorable.
