A few weeks ago, during our visit to Gothenburg, we spent the night at Hotel Orgryte, a family-owned, very comfortable hotel with friendly staff.
Location
Hotel Orgryte is situated in a very quiet residential area, relatively close to the city center. As we had luggage, we first arrived to Hotel Orgryte by bus from the rail station and the trip took only a few minutes. Later, when we went to visit the center, we walked. This time it took us half an hour or so, but it was a nice first contact with the place.
We had a few questions about the city and the reception staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. They answered to each of our inquiries with the calmness and efficiency characteristic to the Swedish nation, a trait we came to admire a lot.
The Room
We have to say that our room was HUGE by any standards. Beautiful rugs decorated the floor and there was more furniture than in most hotels. The wooden desk was so inviting that I couldn't refrain from writing an actual pen and paper postcard to my mom from it. There were potted plants in the window, creating a very homey atmosphere and a complimentary bottle of fizzy water on the table waiting for us upon arrival. The room was very cozy and clean and though facing the street very quiet and well lit. There was also free internet all over the building.
Another unique feature worth mentioning is that the hotel has rooms to meet all needs, from single to families of 7. This makes it a great family-run hotel for families.
The Lobby
The lobby is pretty fancy, with leather chairs, interesting artworks and beautiful orchids decorating the tables. We relaxed by one of the floor to ceiling windows and we couldn't be more comfortable.
Breakfast
We had breakfast in a large room just next to the lobby and we sat at the table by the aquarium. I had spotted it the previous evening, and even whispered to my husband that this looked like the perfect spot to have breakfast, but never suspected that the next morning, it would be one of the few tables still available. Sometime I am led to believe that if I want something, the universe conspires to make it happen.
As we had a delicious and varied breakfast, we watched the cute fish leisurely swimming from one side of the tank to the other. It was sooo relaxing!
There was great variety in the buffet breakfast served at Hotel Orgryte. From cheeses, sausages and fish to some very yummy salsas and salads. It was also a great way to start the day, in a relaxing ambiance.
We loved the friendly atmosphere of this hotel and how spacious everything was. Even the hallways were wide and were decorated with book shelves full of books that guests could borrow. We can definitely recommend Hotel Orgryte, especially if you are looking for a place to stay in Gothenburg that won't break you budget.
Basel, the city on the Rhine, is a curiosity in itself. Located right on the border where Switzerland, France and Germany meet, it has a tri-national metropolitan area, and is one of the most important cultural center in Switzerland. The city hosts many...
As my husband and I arrived at Kyoto Train Station by Shinkansen from Osaka, a representative of Hotel Granvia Kyoto was already awaiting for us on the platform, as part of the 'meet and greet' service the hotel provides. The man immediately took...
Bergen is not a large city and this has it's advantages - most hotels are located smack down in the city center. And Scandic Hotel is no exception. It took us only a few minutes from the train station to get to the hotel. And from the hotel it was...
I was sold the moment I entered Hotel Axel Guldsmeden. By the entrance there was this incredibly beautiful sculpted, wooden tray with delicious organic apples. They looked so inviting that I couldn't resist the temptation and picked one. From...
We are no experts on Eastern Europe and even less on Slovakia. We've just been there once, during our InterRail trip this summer, and only visited Bratislava, the capital. We didn't know what to expect and we certainly didn't think we would...
