City of Arts and Sciences, Valencia - Juan Ripollés Exhibition
|
Juan Ripollés Exhibition, City of Arts and Sciences, Valencia |
I've just came back from a chilly walk under a perfect blue sky. This Sunday I visited a pretty unusual exhibition at the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, the impressive six buildings complex designed by Santiago de Calatrava that appears as part of the Atrium City in the new 'V' series.
Twenty something sculptures by Juan Ripollés are on display on the promenade that goes along L'Umbracle and I have to admit they are a pretty nice addition to the modern architecture around them. My favorites were the cute fellows made out of fiberglass and wrapped up in small particles of Murano glass, because they were so colorful, with chubby faces and sometimes a paella pan for a head. I'm not a big fan of contemporary art, but this figures intrigued me lots. They were so much fun to watch and photograph and they spread innocence and optimism all over the place. And because of the Murano glass they glittered so nicely in the winter sun, like vampires asking for attention.
Then the others, more serious guys came, all made out of shiny bronze. But they were fun too, with their multiple personalities and playful smiles. Most of them were almost twins in appearance of the colorful ones, but not in their DNA. It was like they only had one parent in common.
The Juan Ripollés exhibition is free of charge and it is open until March 30th, 2011.
If you like Juan Ripollés sculptures, maybe you are interested to know that he just had another exhibition at Miami Art Fair and now some of his works are in Palm Beach, Florida.
I really don't know what the bull is doing here... It looks like he's pulling the entire exhibition, God knows where!
Dino is part of another exhibition going on currently inside L'Umbracle. He must have somehow got lost from the horde and somebody tightened him by the tail to the tree behind him, not to run away back to his land, as a mother explained to her 3 years old curious daughter. The truth is that he's doing community service and poses as advertisement for the biggest robotic dinosaurs exhibition in Europe. And I came to the conclusion that he might even enjoy it there, posing for pictures in the middle of the lake where nobody can bother him, nor ride him as they do with his brother inside the exhibitions. Well, 'brothers' is just a figure of speech, because the Dinos inside the exhibition are anything from Stegosaurus to Diplodocus, including Tyrannosaurus Rex.
There's also a photo exhibition going on in front of the Principe Felipe Museum with pictures from the short history of the City of Arts and Sciences, including little penguins being treated by their vets and images from concerts that were held here. The Star Trek exhibition is still on display inside the museum.
I hope you had or are about to have a great Sunday!
