Milwaukee Art Museum Gives Tribute To Impressionism

Impressionism: Masterworks on Paper is the first exhibition to explore the drawings famous Western European impressionists like Manet, Degas, Renoir, Cézanne,Van Gogh and Toulouse-Lautrec left behind.

The Impressionism: Masterworks on Paper exhibition makes its premiere at Milwaukee Art Museum, in collaboration with Albertina from Vienna and puts in the limelight 125 drawings, watercolors, and pastels by some of the greatest names in the history of art.

When we say impressionism we always think of the famous paintings in which light and shadow engage in a battle for meaning. But the drawings created in the France of fin de siècle are equally representative of their times.

Milwaukee Art Museum is also an impressive piece of architecture worth a visit. It inspired the long corridors of the V mothership from the now cancelled 'V' TV series, and it's newest addition, the Quadracci Pavilion, was created by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava who also designed the fabulous City of Arts and Sciences complex in his hometown, Valencia.

Impressionism: Masterworks on Paper runs from October 14, 2011 to January 8, 2012 at Milwaukee Art Museum, Wisconsin.
