Greek Islands: Summer Holidays in the Land of Gods
With the beginning of the New Year many look forward for the summer holidays and often tour operators and online travel agents step up their offers and bring down their prices. With this in mind it should be the right time to get searching and settle on a dream holiday. Booking early not only gives you something to look forward to but as well allows you to pay gradually off the holiday cost.
Many operators do offer low deposits to make easier to confirm a booking and the price straight away. But before you do that here are some holiday options to consider looking into for you summer break. The Greek islands are only a short flight from any UK airport and offer resorts with great sky blue beaches, a rich culture and history, and plenty of fresh food restaurants and amazing wine routes. Here is a quick guide on what to look for.
For Couples
From so many islands to choose from it is hard to pin the best. Corfu, Rhodes, Kos, and Crete offer a great choice for nightlife and those that love partying. All of those islands are relatively larger than most of the other Greek islands, hence outside the partying resorts are so much to do and see. This would be great taking a break or detoxing from night before. For a more romantic and off the beaten path the islands of Lesbos or Santorini are some serious contenders. The latter offers breathtaking views but be warned most of the towns are build on hillsides and the walks can just as breathtaking. Most of the beaches in Santorini are black sand but the Red Beach is one the best and in the island and certain an unusual colour from the red volcanic pebbles.
For Families
The larger islands of Crete, Corfu, Zante and Rhodes would be ideal for the families with children of any age. These islands would offer some of the best all inclusive resorts and choice is great. The Aqualand Village in Agios Ioannis is a fantastic hotel with great water slides and entertainment not only for children but adults too. Crete is the largest of all and has way too many hotels to mention but for a family holiday I would start looking in Rethymnon or Hersonissos. If your children don’t mind a walk then consider taking them to the gorges of the White Mountains, make sure you chose the right ones as they can be long and tiring, but well worth the effort. In Rhodes the Butterfly Valley is just as stunning for a holiday activity.
The Greek islands are ideal for anyone that is looking for a great summer holiday, regardless the price. They are well interlinked main hubs in UK and Europe, hence the convenience of a short flight makes it even easier for those that like to break the 7 night’s duration and opt instead for a shorter break.
