Photo Of The Day: Arches National Park

Dawn, South Window Arch
South Window Arch, Arches National Park (USA)

Flickr user Further to Fly captured a perfect moment in time. I love the colors of the new day being born over the Arches National Park from Utah. The eroded monoliths proudly raise their heads over the dramatic landscape. The clouds look like from Turner's paintings. The dashes of green over the salmon and orange of the dessert tells us a story about the desperation with which life fights death. The national park lies atop an underground salt bed deposited here some 300 million years ago when a sea flowed into the area and eventually evaporated. It seems to me that nature had a master plan for this region ever since.

Tip: Arches National Park together with more than 100 other national parks all over USA waive entrance fees on specific weekends throughout the year.

If in your travels you surprised nature at its best, don't forget to add you photos to our Travelocafe group on Flickr (with Creative Commons licensing). Your shot might be the next Photo Of The Day.
