By some kind of cruel irony, just after visiting the fish market, we went to the Bergen Aquarium. We walked for about 15 minutes, 'cause all in all the Aquarium is not so far from the city center, and when we finally arrived there we were greeted by a couple of dozens of adult Happy Feet with their cute little babies. I've always found penguins funny in a good way and for me they were going to be the highlight of Bergen's Aquarium.
The Aquarium, though one of the most popular attractions in Bergen, is relatively small. Most of the tanks are indoors and host smaller fish, like the cute Nemo above. I think after the movie was released, any aquarium out there checked to see if they had a clown fish between their assets and if not, get one asap.
The penguins and the big animals are to be found outdoors, just by the entrance, and it's amazing how they can keep a good spirit and do their favorite tricks in spite of the limited space available. It turns out that happiness comes from within, after all.
Another favorite part of Bergen Aquarium were the anemone tanks. These amazing sea animals always puzzled me. They are so beautiful and come in so many forms, yet they look like plants but they are not...
I just loved how much importance the management gives to education. First of all, there is an open tank and kids can actually take out of the water and hold in their hands little sea animals. Second, above each tank there is a back lit screen telling the visitor about the species inside. They offer a wealth of interesting information (also in English) that made me realize just how amazing and varied life undersea can truly be. The average person (me included) definitely doesn't know enough about what's going on in the animal reign, beyond Homo Sapiens Sapiens... Not that we know nearly enough about ourselves... The world is still a mystery to say the least.
There were schools of fish swimming in circles...
And weird looking fish...
And cute little fish too...
We arrived just in time to see the penguins being fed. Though the feeding was nothing organized, it was nevertheless a good show. The two guys who fed the little fellows told the enthusiast public about the way they care about the baby penguins, and their habits. And the Happy Feet were very much happy to eat the fish, but not very happy when the humans took the babies in their arms to feed them some vitamins. As the song goes, so long and thanks for all the fish...
The Bergen Aquarium also has an exotic animals section, with all kind of snakes, crocks and reptiles, but I graciously decided to skip it, as I'm not a big fan and they just give me the chills.
As we left, just outside the Aquarium, we had the surprise to find a smoking penguin. Apparently, ever since the new anti smoking law was passed, even the rebel penguins need to get outside of the Aquarium to indulge on their urges...

After visiting the souvenir market, we went to the fish market just across the street. The fish market is situated by the harbor and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bryggen, and though it wasn't as huge as we expected it to be, I believe its charm...
Just as we left the Hanseatic Museum and crossed the street on the opposite side of Bryggen, we got face to face with this cute little train. We've never taken a touristic train like this before, not because we have anything against the super touristic...
