If you happen to visit Thailand during the month of November, make sure you don't miss these amazing and colorful Thai festivals.
Loi Krathong Festival of Lights
Loi Krathong Festival is celebrated annually throughout Thailand and is one of Thailand oldest and best-preserved traditions. Hundreds of thousands of flower covered, traditional banana leaf floats, complete with candles and incense sticks, are set adrift in rivers and waterways. It is said if the krathong floats away from you, the coming year will bring good fortune, if it floats back towards the shore, then perhaps your luck may not be quite as you had wished.

Yi Peng Lantern Festival
A popular local festival in Chiang Mai, Yi Peng Lantern Festival is Northern Thailand's take on Loi Krathong celebrations. The festival features various shows, a lantern contest, light and sound presentations, boat races and rafts competitions. However, the most breathtaking ritual during the Yi Peng Lantern Festival is the launching of the Lanna-style hot air lantern balloons that will supposedly take away all the troubles of the person setting it free.
Lopburi Monkey Festival, Thailand
In Lopburi the monkeys are an important part of the local culture that there is even a festival held in their honor. The city is home to countless monkeys perfectly adapted to life in an urban environment. The locals believe donating food to the monkeys, the town's most famous residents, will bring them good fortune; therefore a monkey ‘tea party’ where Macaques tuck into a spread of fruit, vegetables, and even Coke is prepared in their honour on the last weekend of each November.

Surin Elephant Festival
The Surin Elephant Festival occurs on the third Saturday of November, on the Elephant Stadium in Surin. Though the Surin Elephant Festival is composed of a series of events, the most important one is the Surin Elephant Roundup. Local people are renowned for their ability to capture, tame and train wild elephants and this festival gives you the almost unique opportunity of seeing more than two hundred elephants together. Even more than that, the elephants will dance, race, play soccer and play tug of war against the local men. Capture and training demonstrations, as well as elephant painting are other highlights of this festival.
