Touring The Visitor's Mothership

Atrium City as seen in V (2009 series)
Atrium City as seen in V (2009 series)
Remember when I told you a couple of days ago that the Star Trek Exhibition was hosted in the 'Principe Felipe' Science Museum, one of the six buildings that form the City Of Arts And Sciences from Valencia? I don't know if you clicked when you saw the photo of the building on the outside, but let me give you a hint: do you remember Atrium, the city inside Anna's mothership from V 2009 series? Atrium City is a totally futuristic looking place that goes well with an alien starship. But at least some of the buildings are very much from Earth and I've actually been inside them, and maybe you've been too without even realizing it. Two of the buildings are part of the City Of Arts And Sciences from Valencia, a project designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. One is the Hemisfèric (hosting an IMAX cinema and digital projections) and the other one is 'Principe Felipe' Science Museum. The last one is actually caught from two different angles and appears to be two different buildings inside Atrium City. There isn't much mystery to it as Atrium city is a complex 3D model that served essentially as a matte painting and it was created in LA by David R. Mortonm the guy who also worked for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Serenity. So don't ever expect to see Anna or any other character from V as a matter of fact having a walk on the green alleys of Atrium City, but rest assured that some of the buildings inside Anna's mothership exist in reality and you can visit them. Who's the powerful one now, huh?

Also the long corridors of the hovering alien ship were inspired by Quadracci Pavilion, a sculptural, postmodern addition to the Milwaukee Art Museum located on the shore of Lake Michigan, completed in 2001, another project of Santiago Calatrava. Apparently somebody from the V team was fascinated with Calatrava's work and thought it looked alien enough to be part of a sci-fi series.

So, going back to the Star Trek Exhibition, this year you can basically visit the bridge of an Earth starship from the future inside a building that is part of a town inside a present day alien spaceship. How cool and twisted is that?
