Art Hotel, Wroclaw. Homey Atmosphere and Tasty Dishes

Wroclaw was right from the beginning a wonderful surprise and we were happy to discover its magic. In fact we liked this Polish city so much that it quickly became our favorite.

The Location

Probably responsible for the good vibes we felt here was also us staying at the amazing Art Hotel, situated right next to the main square, in two historical buildings, one of which dates from the 16th century. It is curious how sometimes one gets to see a city through the glasses one borrows from the hotel one stays in. It happened more than once that we visited a place multiple times and the mood and feeling the city each time stirred in us was dictated by the hotel we stayed in. Therefore, we really see it important to stay in a nice hotel for a better experience of the city.

Art Hotel Wroclaw is the kind of hotel that has the power to set everything right the moment you check in and to keep the smile on your face long after you check out.

First Impression

Upon arrival we were handed a city map, information about the most important places to visit and one super special map with all the little friends that inhabit Wroclaw. At the beginning we were intrigued, because we knew nothing about the strange but cute inhabitants, but soon we started chasing bronze dwarfs all over the city and this was an amazing way of interacting and discovering Wroclaw in a more mindful way than any other city before.

The first one was Dwarf Arcik, just in front of the Art Hotel. This is how the city started working its magic on us. By the time we left, one day an a half later, we had met no less than 43 dwarfs from all ways of life, doing all kind of activities.

Polish Hospitality

Starting with the reception stuff and the waiters, all the way to the hotel manager, everybody was incredibly nice and warm at Art Hotel. These people really seemed a big happy family even without sharing the same ancestry, as they were so united in their goal to make this hotel a wonderful place to stay at and a great experience to remember. They mastered the art of knowing how to make happy each guest in particular and this made us fall in love with their hotel immediately.

Our Room

The whole Art Hotel has this elegant decor in soft colors that stirred in us a homey feeling, and our room was no exception. The bed was extra comfortable and the covers were made out of this wonderful pattern fabric that made the room a joy to stay in.

The classical style of the furniture gave a great sense of calmness and warmth that together with the views of the St. Elisabeth's Church from our top floor room, made this a very pleasant stay.

Just minutes after we checked in, it started purring down rain. After the heat we had to endure in Krakow the previous day, this was a welcomed change of temperature, though for a split second we really got worried that if the rain didn't stop, we wouldn't get to discover all Wroclaw had to offer. The good thing about the rain however was that we decided to take our time and explore the hotel.

The Terrace

We went for an early dinner in the hotel's restaurant, where we were instantly hooked by the decor. Same soft colors as in our room, but this time so many more details! The restaurant was divided in two parts - the main hall and the glass covered terrace. We chose a table on the terrace, enchanted by the fountain in the middle and the pond with running water on the side. A big white carnation bouquet was decorating each table and incredibly green potted plants were giving us a close to nature feeling.

The Art Hotels's Restaurant serves traditional Polish dishes and we were happy to discover new flavors as they were served to us on creatively decorated plates.

White borsch served with fried sausage and potato puree

Wholemeal bread cream served with veal meatballs

Nut mousse with pistachio marshmallow served with orange in Cointreau

The atmosphere was surreal. As we were watching the rain gently hitting the ivy leaves on the other side of the glass, the soft melody in the restaurant was mixing music notes with the zen murmur of the fountain. The whole dinner was an hymn to our senses. The food was delicious and the combination of flavors and textures was great.

The Breakfast

Given the experience of the previous night, in the morning we woke up with a big smile on our faces at the thought of the delightful breakfast expecting us. We were not disappointed. Served in an huge room adjacent to the restaurant, the breakfast was composed of uncounted for dishes and an impressive array of fishes. The  peaceful atmosphere and smiling stuff put us in a good mood for the rest of the day.

Other Rooms

At our request, we were also shown a few other rooms. While every one of them had a slightly different decor, they all had this peaceful, homey atmosphere that gave us the feeling that we were very welcomed wherever we happened to be in the Art Hotel.

The wooden beams in the upper floor rooms (including ours), the hand painted walls, the furniture, they were all contributing to the charm of the place.

However, we believe that the artistry of this hotel goes beyond the ordinary meaning of the word, and it is dictated by more than just the decorative objects. The art lays in the friendly treatment, the smiles on the faces of the people working here and the aura they are passing to the place. It is like every corner of the Art Hotel is impregnated by the wonderful personalities of the people who day after day put their energy and creativity in this place.
