Myhregaarden Hotel, Stavanger. A Very Romantic Boutique Hotel
By the time our train arrived in Stavanger it was almost 11PM and we were tired. Nevertheless, some reminiscences of the midnight sun could be seen on the sky even at the end of July, wrapping the city in a charming atmosphere.We took out the GPS to find our way to the hotel. There weren't too many people around to ask anyways and the ones that were there were as clueless as we were. We happily spotted Myhregaarden Hotel just on the other side of the artificial lake that lays in front of the train station, behind the old cathedral. We walked for about 5 minutes, time in which I couldn't refrain myself from admiring the beautiful wooden houses. And when we finally made it to our room, I don't think I was ever so happy to arrive at a hotel.
Location
Myhregaarden Hotel is a newly opened boutique hotel in an old brick building in the middle of Stavanger. The hotel is situated within walking distance from museums, some very nice restaurants and pubs and the point where the fjord cruises depart from. Literally everything is just minutes away making it a very comfortable hotel to stay in. On the other hand, Stavanger is a quiet little city and this transcends into the serene atmosphere Myhregaarden Hotel has.
Our room
Our room was actually a Junior Suite and was situated at the last floor and had some gorgeous wooden beams and sky windows. But what really, really impressed us was the fireplace and the beautiful fresh cut roses in our room. We were completely smitten the moment we entered the room and spotted the fire burning in the chimney. Such an incredible surprise! And it felt extremely welcoming, as if someone would have been expecting us to return to our home in Stavanger.
The room was spacious, well lit, clean and nicely decorated. The combination between old and new was fantastic and I loved that they took the time to leave us a personalized welcome message on the tea table. It really showed how much they care for their guests.
Our room had a comfy sofa and an armchair facing the fireplace, which was absolutely delightful. And then there were books everywhere. There were bookshelves in our room, there were bookshelves on the hallways. At every step of the way there was an invitation to sink our teeth into culture.
But without a doubt, the mattress and the pillows were the best our room had to offer. So comfortable and soft, we almost didn't want get out of bed in the morning. Our room wasn't facing the street, but rather the back of other buildings, though all of them shorter than the hotel's building. And though we didn't have much of a view, we certainly had a very quiet sleep at any time of the night or day (we actually came back to the hotel for an afternoon nap).
Breakfast
We had breakfast in the beautifully decorated restaurant downstairs. As this place functions as a restaurant/pizzeria in the evening, it certainly has a more classy feeling than the average hotel breakfast room. There was a fresh cut red rose on each table, lit candles, and leather chairs. I believe this was the very fist time we had breakfast at candlelight. These little details made for one of the most romantic breakfasts we've ever had.
We had some of the most divine breads (including dried tomatoes bread), and though neither of us as is a bread aficionado, we could easily become addicts here. We also jumped to the conclusion that we could feast on Norwegian bread and cheese for weeks on end. Other than that, the buffet breakfast featured a selection of cold cuts, fruits and veggies, all good quality.
