Hotel Gutenberg, Strasbourg. Central and Elegant
It was in Strasbourg in the middle of the 15th century that Gutenberg perfected and unveiled the printing press. Today, the city celebrates him with a bronze statue in a square named after him and a pretty hotel bearing his name.
Hotel Gutenberg is situated a stone throw away from the majestic Strasbourg cathedral, right in the middle of this charming city. An great array of incredibly cute souvenir shops and restaurants are to be found nearby and the Petite France iconic neighborhood is a short walk away. This makes Hotel Gutenberg one of the best and most centrally located hotels in the city.
As we enter the room, we are blown away by all natural light entering the spacious room through floor to ceiling windows. The room's decor is minimalistic and sleek, yet very elegant and clean. We especially love the riddle on the bed's white headboard spelling 'Gutenberg'. The white of the bed is in nice contrast with the dark curtains and purple carpet, creating a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. The room is air conditioned, with coffee and tea facilities and there's free WIFI all over the hotel's premises.
And we surely appreciate the welcome bottle of Alsatian wine and heart-shaped handmade natrual soap.
The bathroom is spacious too, with natural light coming in through big windows and all the toiletries one can dream of.
Later on we are given a tour of the hotel, and while we pick inside some other rooms, we can attest they are faithful to the same elegance and style, while sound proof windows are yet another one of the things contributing to a good sleep quality.
From some of the top floor rooms the single tower of the magnificent Strasbourg cathedral can be seen.
Hotel Gutenberg has a pleasant reception with friendly staff. Every time we return to the hotel we are greeted with a smile by English speaking receptionists no matter the hour of the day or night.
And while the hotel has an elevator, taking the stairs is a beautiful adventure of discovery. The old wooden beams painted in strong blues and all the Napoleon paintings and prints create a fabulous homey space, while the pretty carpet covering the stairs give a sense of warmth that makes us feel welcomed.
Breakfast is served downstairs, in a room adjacent to the reception. And while we enjoy the variety of the buffet breakfast tremendously, one of the mornings we feel like pampering ourselves even further and order breakfast in bed. Our favorite item on the menu is the hot chocolate, thick and sweet, just as we like it.
Hotel Gutenberg is a quiet and clean place, extremely well located. It made us feel spoiled and welcomed and it greatly contributed to our enjoyment of the city of Strasbourg.
For more information you can check out the hotel's website and Facebook page.
We were guests of Hotel Gutenberg, however, all opinions expressed here are entirely our own and based on our personal experience.
