Last Minute Luxury
Just because you’ve left all your travel plans until the very last minute doesn’t mean that you’ll have to forgo luxury for the sake of immediacy. It isn’t always possible to plan ahead and in an increasingly hectic world it’s reassuring to discover that you can still be pampered in splendour without a massive amount of advance scheduling.
Possibilities
Depending on your time scale you can either travel to your destination by plane or train or you could take advantage of some of the many last minute cruises currently on offer. If you’re travelling around the world and feel in need of a little comfort and relaxation, then try and plan your budget so that you can just take off on a whim and chill out and indulge yourself.
Paris
The magical ‘City of Light’ can be visited on a tight budget or if you really want to push the boat out then this is the place to really blow your euros. The rue du Faubourg Saint- Honore has always been synonymous with glamour and a visit to the magnificent ‘Hotel le Bristol’ just endorses this image. Just revel in the 18th century style of the hotel, it actually opened its doors in 1925, but pre-revolutionary French décor is more opulent than that of the 1920s. Staying on the Right Bank and passing the Champ Elysees, you’ll be able to indulge in all your excessive shopping whims with a trip to Chanel, just down the road from the hotel. For last minute dining, just ask the concierge and they’ll be able to book you into the very best restaurants that Paris has to offer. A meal at ’ Le Meurice’ will set you back a mere 200 euros, but this 3 Michelin star gourmand’s palace really will provide you with a meal to remember. You could, alternatively, just enjoy your trip to Paris with a cruise down the Seine; this is one of the best ways to actually view the city without the noise and bustle of the streets.
Travelling
The small island of Madagascar, just off the east coast of Africa is in a state of transition. International mining conglomerates are rapidly exploiting the island and you should really seize the chance to book a last minute cruise to this idyll before it is too late. If you unwind on the lengthy sea journey, you’ll be able to summon the energy to visit some of the wonderful forests and natural habitats that abound here. Of course, no trip to Madagascar would be complete without a visit to the Lemur Park in Antanarivo or if you really want to experience the stunning Madagascan habitat then a trip to Camp Amoureux near the Kirindy Rainforest in the west of the island is essential. Luxury camping is available and you’ll be able to spend the night with the lemurs and frogs for company safe on your platform bed having had a shower and beer before retiring.
