Hotel Rössli. In the Middle of Zurich's Old Town

Switzerland is my favorite country in the world, so it should come as no surprise that this year my husband and I managed to visit it twice. And, one of our destinations was Zurich, the city with the highest living standard world-wide.

Nested among the painted houses and quiet architecture of the Old Town, Hotel Rössli is perfectly situated. The Limmat River is just at the end of the street. Lake Zurich is a short walk away, as is Zurich Stadelhofen train station. Zürich's Hauptbahnhof, the world's most frequent railway station (2915 trains every day) is four tram stops away, or a pleasant walk by the riverside. However, the two train stations are also connected.

There are plenty of restaurants and shopping opportunities in the vicinity of the hotel as well, and I would go as far as saying this is my favorite part of the city.

Our room at Hotel Rössli came with a few nice surprises. A large bathroom, with plenty of towels and all the necessary toiletries, in room minibar with complimentary bottles of water, safety deposit box, sound proof windows and even Swiss chocolates on the pillow. In spite of the minimalist decor, the room felt comfortable nevertheless. And the little wooden horses we could actually find all over the hotel were the cutest things ever. They are the symbol of the hotel and a great addition to the place.

The hotel is relatively small, but it has some very friendly staff, that never hesitated to help us with direction and restaurant recommendations.

And I was pretty impressed to see that in the tiny reception area they found space for colorful candies as well as a business center in an intimate corner halfway between ground-floor and first floor.

The reception is closed during the night, but they have a great system in place and all you need to take with you is the small front door key. Nevertheless, the hotel's bar next door is open till late hours and they are eager to help in case you have problems letting yourself in.

Breakfast at Hotel Rössli was the highlight of each day. A really nice selection of cold cuts, cheeses, pastries, fruits, cereals and other local products were on display on the buffet table. The quiet and relaxing environment was complemented by fresh cut flowers decorating each table.

On our last day we left in the wee small hours of the morning. As previously agreed, the staff left in our absence a picnic breakfast in the minibar. There were fruits, and delicious sandwiches and yogurts that we greatly enjoyed on the train to France.

Hotel Rössli was a pretty nice find. Placed in a great location, it is a budget friendly option in a city notorious for its extremely high prices.
